Local Information

Chideock

Cedar Cottage is located in the village of Chideock and its main  street is only 10 minutes walk away. Chideock has a church, two pubs and a village store with post office. You will find almost anything you may have forgotten to bring with you in the store and you will always receive a cheery welcome. The pubs (The Clock and The George) are also welcoming. The food at the George is good and the log fires make it a pleasant place to while away a winters evening.

A walk around the village to discover the site of Chideock castle, the  Roman Catholic church and a great village green with lovely children's playground are worthwhile. You will find local information and maps in the cottage.

Seatown

Seatown village and beach is a 15 minute walk through fields on public footpaths from Cedar Cottage.  It is a beautiful beach overlooked by Golden Cap and is a great place for fossil hunting. Turn right when you get to the beach and walk towards the end of the beach for the best finds. The beach is also very popular with fishermen.

Directly overlooking the beach you will find the very popular Anchor pub. It's garden has wonderful views of the beach and Lyme Bay.

Bridport

Bridport is a bustling town with a street  market every Wednesday and Saturday (farmers’ market, 2nd Saturday of every month in Barrrack Street). It has a wonderful selection of independent shops. Try Snook's hat shop!

There are a good number of places to eat, restaurants, tea shops, bistros, pubs, Indian, Chinese and Thai . If you like traditional fish and chips try Long's fish and chip restaurant.

The town has both an arts centre and an independent cinema and events venue, the Electric Palace. Both have films, live music and theatre.

West Bay

West Bay is Bridport's seafront. It has a working harbour, beach, fish restaurants, art galleries, fish and chips and the magnificent east cliff.
